BIOLOGISTS & BIOLOGICAL SURVEYS

J. W. Sefton Foundation Channel Islands Sea Cave Expedition in Stanford University Grotto Monthly Report 1: 10 (2-3) 1965

Biologists have collected on the California Channel Islands since at least the mid-18th century. The voyage of the H.M.S. Herald (1845-1851) to many regions of the globe, including the Pacific Coast, resulted in the first known Island Fox being collected by Captain Henry Kellett and Lieutenant Wood on Santa Rosa Island. The specimen now in the British Museum.
